Some things
Should go unharvested:
The slow golden rain of pears,
Unspoken offers from old friends,
Sorrows sown in childhood,
Inherited fields of rage,
The unpaid debt of blood.
Some things should be left
To soften in the sun, to melt
Into the understanding soil.
